Landfill Site Survey and Capacity Assessment Report (2007)
|
Conclusions
...Based upon an amendment to increase the total capacity by 100,000
cubic metres, the remaining landfill life is estimated to be 12.8 years
or late 2021, assuming the current rate of disposal of 7,800 cubic
metres per year
Recommendations
- Apply to MOE for an amendment to modify the landfill
footprint from the 2001 W.J. Bowman Ltd. Survey limits to include the
current waste placement limits plus the full 4.5 hectare C of A area.
- Apply to MOE for an amendment to increase the total
capacity of the landfill site by 100,000 m3 from 164,000 m3 to 264,000
m3, which will extend the life of the site by an estimated 12.8 years
to 2021, assuming a disposal rate of 7,800 m3 per year
- Continue efforts to reduce wastes by seeking other waste reduction opportunities, including recycling.
- A Site Management Plan should be implemented to direct the
placement of future waste, maximizing the potential capacity of the
site, ensuring waste is placed within the designated area.
- A topographic survey and site inspection should be
conducted on a regular interval (at least every 2 years), to verify the
remaining capacity and to ensure future waste placement is maintained
within designated areas.
