To the Residents of The Corporation of the Municipality of Red Lake:

Below is a copy of the Strategic Plan that has been adopted by your newly elected Municipal Council for our Municipality.

This plan sets forth Strategic Goals for our Municipality. These goals are set in the context of our Vision of the Future, our purpose as an organization as stated in our Mission Statement, and a set of Core Beliefs which will guide our actions as we proceed to that future.

As your elected representatives, we are excited and optimistic about the future of our Municipality. We hope that you, as residents of our Municipality will join with us to ensure our potential is realized, our goals are achieved, and our vision becomes a reality.

VISION STATEMENT

The Municipality of Red Lake is a progressive community strategically located on the major access route to a large part of Northwestern Ontario C a region with significant potential for sustainable development.

As a community, the Municipality is characterized by our northern hospitality and our entrepreneurial spirit. We recognize the importance of partnerships and employ them, both within the Municipality and with our neighboring communities, to enable development and encourage social and economic growth.

The Municipality of Red Lake is composed of a number of distinct communities, each of which is respected for its individuality and uniqueness. Each community is a supportive integral member of our larger united Municipality.

As an organization, the Municipality of Red Lake is respected for the high value placed on the social and economic commitment given to its residents and citizens. Our governance and organizational structures and practices are recognized for their integrity, effectiveness and efficiency.

Our full service community’s economy is based on mining, wood resources and tourism. We are a distribution centre for goods and services to that part of Northwestern Ontario accessed through the expanding network of roads originating from our gateway location. Our municipal endeavors in each of these economic sectors reflect our need to ensure the sustainability of our community and enhance its compatibility with the physical, social and economic environment in which we exist.

The Municipality of Red Lake is recognized and celebrated as a community in which businesses can succeed and all residents are proud to live, work, play, and retire.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Municipality of Red Lake is a legally incorporated organization which acts in a formal manner to provide leadership, make decisions and take action regarding the establishment and implementation of policies, procedures and standards regarding matters of public interest to all residents.

The Municipality of Red Lake is also a vehicle whereby its residents work together to identify needs and formulate plans which manage change and address challenges in ways that will enhance their quality of life.

BELIEF STATEMENTS
WE BELIEVE:

That the residents of the Municipality of Red Lake have the right to efficient and effective governance and leadership.
That the Mayor and Council of the Municipality of Red Lake have an obligation to make decisions in the best interests of its residents in a respectful and professional manner.
That all residents have a right to be treated fairly with due process by the Municipality of Red Lake and that communication between the Municipality and its residents should be open and transparent.
That employees of the Municipality of Red Lake have a responsibility at all times to represent the Municipality in a respectful and professional manner.
That all residents of the Municipality of Red Lake should have access to all municipally affordable services.
That our community needs a AVision@ and a long term plan to ensure the ongoing viability and success of our Municipality.
That diversification of our Municipality’s economic base is important for long term sustainability.
That economic development based on sustainable growth enhances our Municipality’s stability.
That economic development should be of a type which encourages environmental sustainability.
That economic development should be of, wherever possible, a type which encourages resource sustainability.
That our strategic location will enable us to take advantage of social and economic opportunities for growth.
That the Municipality should develop and implement processes which both encourage and facilitate community initiatives.
That community pride and identity is important and the process to develop and encourage such pride should be initiated.
That working partnerships between a variety of public and private agencies, organizations and individuals are necessary ingredients to achieve mutual health and prosperity.
That property owners within the Municipality have an obligation and a responsibility to maintain their property in a safe, clean and orderly condition.
That the residents of the Municipality of Red Lake have an obligation and a responsibility to respect the rights and property of others.

GOALS

To implement and practice strategic governance and management in the Municipality of Red Lake so that the organization is more transparent, effective and efficient in the way it operates and serves the needs of the residents.
To promote and encourage economic development within the Municipality of Red Lake.
To enhance the appearance of our Municipality and promote a sense of pride and spirit among all residents.
To ensure that all the residents of the Municipality of Red Lake are treated with dignity and respect.
To become a transportation and service hub in Northwestern Ontario.
To promote an environmental awareness within the residents of our Municipality.
To promote and preserve our culture and heritage.
To promote and encourage a healthy lifestyle.
