Details (Summary)
RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. To manage the Operations Department and to carry out all duties under relevant legislation.
  2. To direct and supervise all Operations staff.
  3. To develop and administer maintenance and construction programs for the operation and rehabilitation of municipal roads, bridges, sewer, watermains and facilities.
  4. To work independently and as a team with other municipal staff.
  5. To develop with the CAO the department’s annual operating and capital budgets.
  6. To maintain all records, statistics and reports related to the Operations Department.
  7. To prepare all reports as required.
  8. To encourage and promote through constant supervision, the development of employee attitudes toward safe and responsible work practices and in all cases the standards of the Occupational Health and Safety Act must be met or exceeded.
  9. Assess staff performance and complete evaluation reports.
  10. Perform other duties and tasks as assigned from time to time by the CAO.


SKILL REQUIRED

A thorough knowledge of operations and facilities within a municipality; the ability to recognize and understand any changes in maintenance practices; oral, organizational and written skills; be flexible; survey and road design with construction inspection skills and the ability to effectively supervise the Operations staff. The eligibility of becoming a member of OACETT.

QUALIFICATIONS

A thorough knowledge of operation/facility practices gained through 5 years of Public Works experience including water distribution, storm and sanitary sewage collection, road design, survey, construction inspection and be eligible for membership with OACETT. A three Year College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. To operate designated heavy equipment for the maintenance and construction of the Municipal road systems.
  2. To operate all necessary equipment to repair the Municipal water and sewer system.
  3. To perform routine inspections and maintenance of equipment.
  4. Must have a working knowledge of hydraulic valves, electrical switches, electro mechanical activators and air controls.
  5. Assist with shop maintenance and clean up.
  6. Maintain Municipal property and facilities to Municipal standards.
  7. Must possess a valid Ontario DZ driver’s licence.
  8. To encourage and promote attitudes toward safe and responsible work practices, and in all cases, the standards of the Occupational Health and Safety Act must be met or exceeded.
  9. Perform other duties and tasks as assigned from time to time by the Operations Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a level of general training equivalent to Grade 10, plus additional specialized training in general, such as commercial or technical school subjects, and at least one year of experience.

QUALIFICATIONS
