The Red Lake waste disposal site is a municipally operated landfill located on highway 125 between Red Lake and Balmertown. Various types of refuse are accepted, but some items may require an additional fee in addition to the standard disposal fee.

There is a hazardous waste disposal program held each year to collect and transport hazardous materials to approved handling facilities.

The waste disposal site is open Tuesday to Saturday, 8:30am to 4:30pm

Waste Disposal Entry Tickets

Waste disposal tickets are required to dispose of waste at the site and are available from the municipal office (2 Fifth Street, Balmertown, 807-735-2096). Cash is not accepted at the site. Other payment options are available to large volume customers. Please contact public works at 807-727-2597 for information.

General Waste Disposal

The Red Lake WDS is equipped with a vehicle scale that is used to determine the weight of refuse being deposited. A two tiered pricing system is in effect for regular garbage.

1. 1Kg to 200Kg @ $0.10/Kg
2. 201Kg and above @ $0.05/Kg

For example, If you have 170Kg of waste you will be charged $17, but if you have 210Kg of waste you will be charged $20.00 for the first 200kg, and $0.50 for the balance of the wieght. The total charge will be $20.50 (which will be rounded down to the nearest dollar value) resulting in a charge of $20.00.

Note:There is an additional fee of $20.00 for items containing freon. Please advise the site attendant as these items are handled differently.

In the event that the scales are inoperable flat fees will be charged.

Clean Wood, Metal & Usable Cover Material

Clean woods is wood that is not painted, stained, treated, or varnished, and is suitable for burning. This material is wieghed but the fee is by volume using a two tiered system.

1. Less than a half-ton truck load (or similarly-sized small trailer). $2.00
2. More than a half-ton truck load. $20.00

Tires

1. Tires up to 16 inches. $5.00
2. Tires up to 22 inches. $8.00
3. Tires bigger than 22 inches. $15.00
